Book lovers in Nantwich are in for a treat as Nantwich Book Shop & Coffee Lounge unveils an exciting programme of author events this spring.

The much-loved independent bookshop and award-winning café, 46 High Street, has been a fixture in the town since 2003.

Housed in a striking 16th-century timber-framed building in the centre of Nantwich, the family-run business continues to draw readers from across Cheshire with its packed calendar of literary evenings.

The season begins at 6.30pm on Tuesday 10 March, with historian Nicholas J Higham, who will launch his latest book, How England Began: From Roman Britain to the Anglo-Saxons.

The new work offers a comprehensive and evidence-based exploration of the transition from Roman Britain to Anglo-Saxon England, delving into culture, warfare and language, with a strong emphasis on archaeological discoveries.

On Wednesday 25 March, author Amy Beashel returns to the bookshop to discuss her new novel Bad Manners.

Described as a fierce and addictive read, the novel explores lust and power, the love we want versus the love we take, and the secrets that simmer beneath the surface of family life. Beashel is also known for her acclaimed debut Spilt Milk.

Thursday 23 April sees an evening with Dr Geoff Andrews, who will introduce his new book Radicals: The Working Classes and the Making of Modern Britain.

The book presents an authoritative history of the British Left, placing working-class communities at the centre of social and political change following the Industrial Revolution.

Cricket fans will not want to miss Tuesday 5 May, when award-winning photographer Gareth Copley-Jones visits with his new book A Picture of England: Twenty Years Photographing the England Cricket Team Home and Away.

The collection features two decades of behind-the-scenes images from more than 180 Tests and 38 overseas tours, including unforgettable moments from the 2010/11 Ashes series and Ben Stokes' dramatic 2019 Headingley heroics.

This line-up continues on Tuesday 12 May, with debut novelist Leigh Radford, who will discuss One Yellow Eye.

The novel offers a unique and heart-wrenching twist on the zombie mythos, following a brilliant scientist searching for a cure to a devastating epidemic while hiding a monumental secret, her undead husband.

Co-owner of the Bookshop, Denise Lawson, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome such a diverse and inspiring group of authors to Nantwich. From history and politics to contemporary fiction and sport, there really is something for everyone.

"These evenings are about bringing readers and writers together in a warm, informal setting right in the heart of our town."

Tickets for all events can be secured in person at the shop, by calling 01270 611665, or by emailing [email protected].

The bookshop has also recently transformed a minibus into a 'Bookshop Bus,' a mobile branch designed to bring books directly to local communities, schools and care homes, ensuring the joy of reading reaches even more people across the area.
