Nantwich humanitarian honoured with Global Peace Award
By Jonathan White 10th Mar 2026
A Nantwich humanitarian has been recognised on the world stage for a second time, after receiving another accolade from the United Nations Global Peace Council.
Dr Parveen Smith, 55, was presented with the United Nations Global Peace Council New York Award 2026 as Mental Health and Wellbeing Advocate of the Year at a glittering ceremony held on 21 February at the Martinique Hotel in New York.
The latest honour follows her prestigious award ceremony at the Houses of Parliament last September, where she was recognised for more than two decades of dedicated humanitarian work supporting communities in the UK and overseas.
The United Nations Global Peace Council works to break the cycle of poverty and social isolation, restoring hope and ensuring individuals have access to the resources and opportunities needed to live with dignity.
A proud mother-of-three and grandmother-of-four, Parveen says her own life experiences have shaped her mission to help others facing stress, anxiety and relationship challenges.
With 25 years of mentoring experience, she has supported both children and adults to improve their mental health, wellbeing and resilience.

Parveen's work has extended far beyond Britain. In Nepal, following a devastating earthquake, she helped feed entire villages, delivered sanitation kits and worked alongside her friend Nirmal to build tin homes in remote mountain communities cut off from aid.
She also provided orphaned children with food and essential school supplies.
In Haiti, Parveen led a small team including a nurse and engineer to rebuild a children's orphanage after the earthquake, helping make it self-sustainable while supplying food, clothing and sanitation.
She also secured 100 pairs of flip flops to protect children from injury and paid four years of unpaid wages for local teachers so they could continue supporting their families.
More recently, Parveen has supported people affected by the war in Ukraine, offering meditation classes to help manage anxiety and raising funds to deliver aid directly to those in need.
She has also organised charity dinners and made personal donations to assist volunteer Gary Fears in transporting food and supplies into the country.
Closer to home, Parveen has raised funds for Cancer Research UK to support pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment.
Speaking after receiving her second award, Parveen said: "I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this recognition. I don't do this work for awards, I do it because every person deserves hope, dignity and the chance to rebuild their life.
"This award belongs to the communities who have trusted me, the volunteers who stand beside me, and the local supporters who continue to believe in making a difference together."
