Casualty suffers smoke inhalation in Nantwich barge blaze

A person suffered smoke inhalation and minor cuts following a barge blaze on the Shropshire Union Canal in Nantwich, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
On Sunday 28 June, emergency services were alerted to an incident near Coole Lane, Nantwich.
At 7.12pm, two fire engines from Nantwich and Crewe, and one fire engine from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene, along with North West Ambulance Service.
Firefighters sed a hose reel jet, with a covering jet on standby, to tackle the fire externally from the jetty.
Once the blaze had been put out, firefighters boarded the barge to check for hotspots.
All occupants were accounted for, with the casualty assessed by paramedics at the scene.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a barge fire in Nantwich.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet, with a covering jet on standby, to tackle the fire externally from the jetty.
"All occupants were accounted for. One casualty, who had suffered smoke inhalation and minor cuts, was assessed by paramedics at the scene.
"Once the fire had been extinguished, firefighters boarded the barge to check for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
"Two cylinders involved in the fire were removed and cooled using a hose reel jet. Areas affected by the fire were cut away and checked for signs of fire spread.
"A fire investigation concluded that the cause was believed to be electrical. "
