Connor Naismith has become the Labour MP for Crewe and Nantwich, turning the constituency red for the first time since Laura Smith lost her seat in 2019.

Connor Naismith has proved the pollsters right, and taken the reins from Kieran Mullan to become the first Labour MP in Crewe and Nantwich since 2019, following a general trend in the country of a wipe-out of Conservative seats. The turnout tonight was 63.36 per cent, a decrease from the 67.3 per cent turnout in 2019. This could potentially be a consequence of voter apathy, either because of a distrust in politics as a whole, or over-confidence in Labour's performance.

Despite Kieran Mullan's majority of 8,508 in 2019, the Conservatives almost came third in this election, with only 1508 votes separating him from Matt Wood of the Reform Party, and Connor Naismith receiving a large majority of 9,727.

A notable change in the vote share is the increase of votes awarded to Matt Wood, who received 1,390 votes in 2019 under the Brexit Party. Tonight, he received 9,602 votes, a much higher proportion of the vote. This comes after Reform won their first elected seat in Ashfield under Lee Anderson, and Reform Leader Nigel Farage winning his seat in Clacton on his eighth attempt to becoming an MP.

Absent from the stage was Matthew Theobald, the candidate for the Liberal Democrats, who despite coming fourth, didn't attend the count at any time in the evening.

It is also notable that ex-MP for Crewe and Nantwich Kieran Mullan, has won his seat in Bexhill and Battle with a majority of 2,657 votes, and will remain as a Conservative MP serving in the House of Commons.

Results - Turnout 63.36 per cent

Connor Naismith - Labour Party - 20,837 votes - 44.1 per cent

Ben Fletcher - Conservative Party - 11,110 votes - 23.5 per cent

Matt Wood - Reform UK - 9,602 votes - 20.3 per cent

Matthew Theobald - Liberal Democrats - 2,286 votes - 4.8 per cent

Te Ata Browne - Green Party - 2151 votes - 4.6 per cent

Brian George Silvester - Putting Crewe First - 588 votes - 1.2 per cent

Phil Lane - Workers Party of Britain - 373 votes - 0.8 per cent

Lord Psychobilly Tractor - Monster Raving Looney Party - 250 votes - 0.5 per cent

Each candidate has deposited £500 to become a candidate, requiring 5 per cent of the votes to receive their deposit back. This means that only Labour's Connor Naismith, Conservative's Ben Fletcher and Reform's Matt Wood have received enough votes to claim back their deposit.

2019 Results - Turnout 67.3 per cent

Kieran Mullan - Conservative Party - 28,704 votes - 53.1 per cent

Laura Smith - Labour Party - 20,196 votes - 37.4 per cent

Matthew Theobald - Liberal Democrats - 2.618 votes - per cent

Matt Wood - The Brexit Party - 1,390 votes - 2.6 per cent

Te Ata Browne - Green Party - 975 votes - 1.8 per cent

Andrew Kinsman - Libertarian Party - 149 votes - 0.3 per cent
