How Nantwich woman found fitness and community in her 70s
By Ryan Parker 14th Sep 2026
At nearly 75 years old, Anne Bradshaw is proving it's never too late to find an activity you love.
Anne, who lives in Nantwich and celebrates her 75th birthday in September, has been attending Everybody Health & Leisure's Nantwich Leisure Centre for the past 18 months.
Interestingly, fitness wasn't always part of her life. When she was younger, sport simply wasn't her thing and PE lessons at school were far from her favourite activity.
But what started as a simple invitation from a neighbour in her 40s would go on to shape decades of healthy habits, friendships and personal achievement.
Her goal wasn't driven by weight loss or a specific health condition. Instead, it became about staying active, feeling good and enjoying being part of a community.
That journey began in Winsford when a neighbour asked Anne if she'd like to try an aerobics class.
From there, she quickly found her rhythm, attending three classes each week before discovering step classes, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Soon, she was attending three step classes a week and was completely hooked.
When those classes came to an end, Anne wasn't ready to stop. A friend suggested Dave's Gym in Northwich, where she continued her fitness journey three times a week and remained a member for an incredible 22 years.
When Anne moved to Nantwich two and a half years ago, travelling to Northwich became too difficult.
After settling into her new home, she joined Nantwich Leisure Centre 18 months ago and immediately found a place where she could continue doing what she loves.
Since then, she's embraced everything the centre has to offer, taking part in an impressive 15 classes every week, including dance, strength, gym and Pilates classes. In fact, her schedule is so full that she can't quite fit cycling and Aqua Fit into the mix.
Anne's dedication hasn't gone unnoticed. Last December, she was surprised to be named 'Member of the Month,' despite only having been attending the centre for a relatively short time.
Along the way, she's lost over a stone in weight, maintained her fitness and built a wonderful circle of friends. Anne describes herself as a chatty lady and enjoys helping new members feel welcome.
Knowing how daunting it can feel to walk into a class for the first time, she makes a point of introducing herself and helping people settle in.
She also feels her fitness levels have improved and says she hasn't experienced any illnesses since taking part in classes regularly.
Looking ahead, Anne plans to keep doing exactly what she enjoys most: staying active, attending her classes and being part of the welcoming community she's found at Nantwich Leisure Centre.
Her story is a reminder that finding the right activity can make a real difference at any age.
Whether you're trying a class for the first time, returning to exercise after a break or simply looking to meet new people, Everybody Health & Leisure offers something for everyone.
From fitness classes and gym sessions to swimming, cycling and Aqua Fit, there's plenty of support available to help you take the first step and enjoy a healthier, happier lifestyle in a way that works for you.
