Applestump Records is celebrating a year since moving into its larger home on Oatmarket in Nantwich town centre.

The independent record shop opened the doors to its new premises in September 2025, relocating from its previous store on Barker Street.

Owned by Steve and Danielle Cook, Applestump Records specialises in both new and second-hand vinyl, with its ever-changing selection covering everything from indie and alternative to soul, electronic, jazz, pop and classic albums.

The move has given the team more space to expand its collection and stage a growing programme of events, including album signings, listening parties and live in-store performances.

Steve and Danielle have always wanted Applestump to be a place where customers can discover something they were not expecting to buy.

That traditional record-shop experience, talking about music, recommending albums, championing new artists and helping customers track down records, remains at the heart of the business.

The shop also supports new music through its work with record labels, distributors and artists on album releases, while its online store has helped the independent Nantwich business build a customer base well beyond Cheshire.

Applestump has become a popular destination for Record Store Day, with queues forming in Nantwich for the annual celebration of independent record shops.

Its pre-loved section also gives thousands of records a new home, providing customers with an ever-changing selection to browse through.

Marking the first anniversary of the Oatmarket shop, Applestump Records thanked its customers, artists, staff and volunteers for their support.

The owners said: "Twelve months ago today we opened the doors to our Oatmarket home for the very first time!

"Whether buying a record or a gig ticket, wearing a t-shirt, liking or sharing a social post or just telling a mate, it all helps and you've no idea how much it means."

The team also thanked the artists who have supported the shop, as well as its staff Ben, Amy and Sophie, and those who help run its gig nights, including Andy, Pete, Mike, Oli, Lynn, Ang and sound engineer Mikey.

Since moving to Oatmarket, Applestump Records has also been recognised as a leading local independent business, being crowned Best Local Business at the annual Shop Local Nantwich Awards.

The award, sponsored by The Weston Biltong Company, recognised the shop's passion, personality and commitment to the local community.

As well as its in-store performances, Applestump has organised a number of successful sold-out concerts elsewhere in Nantwich, including appearances by pop icon Mel C (Melanie Chisholm) at St Mary's Church and Reverend & the Makers at Nantwich Civic Hall.

The shop has now firmly cemented its place at the heart of Nantwich's thriving music scene, combining its extensive range of new and pre-loved vinyl with a packed programme of gigs, Q&As and special events.
