A van driver has sustained "serious injuries" following a crash near Nantwich, with an air ambulance landing at the scene.

On Wednesday 26 August, emergency services were alerted to an incident on the A534 Wrexham Road, at its junction with Brindley Lea Lane.

At 10.08am, three fire engines from Nantwich, Crewe and Lymm, along with a specialist rescue unit from Lymm arrived at the scene - with support from North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Police.

The South Cheshire crash involved a HGV and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson confirmed: "The driver of the van sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment."

An air ambulance doctor provided care to the van driver, before transporting them to hospital.

Wrexham Road remains closed until the afternoon, while work is carried out at the scene.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters attended a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a commercial vehicle.

"One person was physically trapped and crews helped free them from a vehicle.

"Paramedics attended, and an air ambulance doctor provided care before transporting the casualty to hospital.

"Police attended and closed the road while the incident was managed and highways dealt with a fuel spillage at the scene."
