Turkeys die in serious farm building blaze near Nantwich

A number of turkeys have died following a serious farm building blaze near Nantwich, with nine fire engines called to the scene.
On Sunday 19 April, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident on Peach Lane, Alvaston.
At 4.04pm, two fire engines from Crewe and one from Nantwich, Middlewich, Alsager, Tarporley, Winsford, Chester and Sandyford (Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service), as well as an aerial ladder platform and a 'Scorpion' High Reach Extendable Turret arrived at the scene.
Since 6.15pm, the number of fire engines has been reduced to seven, with the barn blaze tackled with hose reel jets and covering jets.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters are at the scene of a fire involving a farm building in Peach Lane, Alvaston.
"The affected barn involves a turkey shed measuring approximately 60metres by 25metres and has been significantly damaged by fire.
"The fire has been surrounded the fire and crews are using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and main jets to fight the fire.
"Frm 6.15pm, attendance at the scene has been reduced to seven fire engines.
"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire from the outside using hose reel jets and covering jets.
"The high reach extendable turret has been set up and is using its spike to pierce the roof space to provide high quantities of water for internal firefighting.
"Sadly, a number of turkeys have perished within the affected barn."
