Cheshire Police has responded to concerns from "worried" Nantwich residents, after large groups of teenagers gathered in fields on Thursday night (April 3), leaving behind large amounts of litter.

The gatherings, believed to be related to end-of-year school celebrations for students finishing their exams, resulted in fields being strewn with rubbish, including broken glass bottles.

Local farmers and landowners have raised concerns about the risk to livestock and the environmental impact.

The teen gatherings, believed to be related to end-of-year school celebrations for students finishing their exams, resulted in Nantwich fields being strewn with rubbish, including broken glass bottles (Nantwich Police).

PCSO, Lizzie Jolley, said: "This morning [April 5] as the sun has come up, the scale of how much rubbish that has been left behind has been noticed by the residents and local farmers/land owners.

"Animals will often use these fields, and with large amounts of broken glass bottles to pick up, it has left it hazardous for local livestock.

"We have all been young, and want to celebrate the hard work and the start of new and exciting beginnings, but it shouldn't become somebody else's mess and concern whilst doing this.

"Poor decisions can be made under peer pressure, especially under the influence of alcohol underage.

"We don't want any young person to ruin the positive future that they have been working towards at one of these parties.

"Moreover, as mentioned, damage the reputation of 'all' local young people, should not be brought on by a group of young people doing this, or the schools that have worked hard to mould our local young people."

Nantwich residents are encouraged to continue reporting any concerns to the local policing team (Cheshire Police).
