A Nantwich pub has been hit with a one-star food hygiene rating, according to a recent Food Standard Agency (FSA) report.
The FSA Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.
This scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It gives businesses a rating from zero to five, displayed at their premises and online.
A one-star hygiene rating means "major improvement is necessary" for the business.
All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Wednesday 15 May:
- Red Cow, 51 Beam Street (Pub) - One Star - (2 April, 2024).
A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Nantwich pub to check it was following food hygiene law and ensuring the food sold was safe to eat.
At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:
- Hygienic food handling - improvement necessary
- Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building – improvement necessary
- Management of food safety - major improvement necessary
Red Cow was rated one-star based on its management of food safety.
It was deemed improvement was "necessary" for Red Cow's hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building.
Owner of Red Cow, Dax Gee, told Nub News: "Thee have been a number of contributing factors leading to this score.
"Whilst there is no excuse, I want to assure customers all issues have been rectified and we are awaiting a revisit imminently."
Nantwich Nub News will keep local residents updated on the revisit of Red Cow.
