Police close Nantwich Aqueduct and canal following welfare incident

Cheshire Police have closed Nantwich Aqueduct and the Shropshire Union Canal through the town, following a welfare concern incident.
Witnesses have reported police being at the scene by Nantwich Aqueduct since around 6.30am on Friday 1 August.
Officers have quashed rumours of a person in possession of firearm, saying the incident poses "no wider risk" to the public.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to a canal boat on the Shropshire Union Canal in Nantwich this morning (1 August) following reports of concern for welfare.

"Police are currently at the scene dealing with the incident.
"No firearms have been seen. Police remain on scene dealing with the incident and there is no wider risk to the public at this time."
Nantwich's Shropshire Union Canal is due to host the Floating Market from Saturday 2 August to Sunday 3 August, from 10am to 5pm.
