Award-winning stroke group opens another branch to cope with growing demand

An award-winning stroke group with a branch in Nantwich has opened its fifth group.
The Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group, whose Nantwich group meets on Fridays, has opened another group in a South Cheshire town today (Wednesday).
Care Connect donated £4,000 to enable the launch of the new group based at Holmes Chapel Methodist Church on Wednesdays.
Founder Liz Bedson set up the first Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group in Crewe in 2018 after her own late father had a stroke.
The Nantwich group meets at the Wesley Methodist Church in Hospital Street on Fridays from 11 am until 1 pm.

A second group was the set up in Alsager as our sister site, Alsager Nub News, told here, a third group in Sandbach followed and then a fourth group was launched in Nantwich.
Last year the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group achieved charity status as well as winning the 'Contribution to the Community' award at South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Business awards 2024.
Liz was delighted with the response to the fifth group at Holmes Chapel and is looking forward to it following in the footsteps of the other four.
"Our aim is to help anyone we can. The local groups are run by volunteers who know the area and know what's available. All the groups are flourishing and we also have an on-line group," she said.
"We're also planning a sporting event when all the groups will join together. The response to the Holmes Chapel launch has been tremendous."
Chairman of Holmes Chapel Parish Council, Diane Tams, was among those to attend the launch of the Holmes Chapel group which will meet on Wednesdays from 1 pm until 2.30 pm.

Around 35 volunteers now look after the groups. The Holmes Chapel group will be run by Karen Kujawa who has a nursing background.
She said: "People can feel isolated and very lonely after having a stroke, especially if they live on their own. It's great to see so many people come along to the launch of the Holmes Chapel group. Please come along and join in."
Nub News wishes the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group every success with their new group. More details about all the groups can be found on their website here
