Plans have been submitted for 52 homes in a Nantwich village's open countryside, creating almost 200 jobs.

Wain Homes wants to build the dwellings on a 4.34-hectare parcel of land north of Cholmondeley Road, Wrenbury.

Part of the site is within the conservation area.

A design and access statement submitted by DGL Associates on behalf of the applicant, states: "The proposal is for a high-quality landscape-led development designed around numerous site constraints of the site with provision of extensive public open space."

It says the layout presents a 'sensitive and respectful approach to the conservation area and heritage character of the location', including appropriate visual and physical distance from the listed buildings - St Margarets Church, Churchside Cottage and Wrenbury Church Bridge – and non-designated heritage assets, which are the vicarage and former Cotton Arms pub.

The 52 homes would comprise a mix of two to five-bedroom dwellings in the form of maisonettes, mews, semi-detached and detached houses.

A vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access is provided from Cholmondeley Road, along the southern boundary.

The scheme includes 30 per cent affordable housing and public open space equating to approximately 1.32 hectares.

Emery Planning says the development would support 181 jobs during and after construction.

Its planning statement submitted on behalf of the applicant says: "Cheshire East Council is unable to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply by a considerable margin.

"Even on the council's own figures, the supply is just 3.3 years.

"Furthermore, the site is well related to the settlement of Wrenbury, a local service centre in the adopted development plan."

It acknowledges the proposed development would result in the loss of greenfield land.

But it adds: "Residential development within this part of the site would inevitably alter the character of the landscape, but the impacts would be limited and localised.

"Such impacts are inevitable given that greenfield sites beyond the existing settlement boundaries are needed to address the shortfall in housing land supply."

The last date for submitting comments is Wednesday 18 November, with a target decision date of 7 January, 2027.
