A determined volunteer from Nantwich has completed an inspiring sponsored swimming challenge which raised over £400 for children's charity Hope House & Ty Gobaith.

Caroline Jones, 58, completed a remarkable 20-mile swim over 26 weeks at Crewe Lifestyle Centre, finishing her marathon effort to cheers and applause from friends, family and fellow members of Seahorse Swimming Club.

Among those celebrating her achievement was the Mayor of Crewe, Stuart Mackay, who presented Caroline with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Caroline, who has cerebral palsy and has limited use of her left arm and leg, began the challenge last autumn in support of the Hope House & Ty Gobaith charity, where she volunteers at the Nantwich branch.

Speaking after the swim, Cllr Mackay praised Caroline's dedication and determination.

He said: "It was an honour to be invited to join the Seahorse Swimming Club at the Lifestyle Centre to cheer on Caroline as she completed her sponsored swim for Hope House & Ty Gobaith, and to award her a certificate for such a great achievement.

"Her dedication to raising money by pushing herself physically and mentally is an inspiration to everyone. Well done, Caroline."

Caroline received support throughout the challenge from Jackie Roberts through Cheshire East Council's Shared Lives scheme.

Jackie said: "Caroline has focused so well and showed lots of willpower to complete this challenge. She now deserves a well-earned rest,"

Her sister, Amelia Williamson, also paid tribute to Caroline's achievement, saying: "I'm so incredibly proud of my sister Caroline for swimming a total of eight miles.

"This was a massive achievement for her and she's thankful to everybody who kindly sponsored her."

Hope House & Ty Gobaith supports children with life-threatening conditions and their families by providing specialist care and improving quality of life from diagnosis onwards.
