The Greek Taverna St Martha has become the first winner of Connor Naismith MP's small business of the month award initiative, launched in November.

The Hospital Street restaurant which is run by Kelly Woodnutt, 38, and her partner Vasileios Kourtidis, 47, is the only Greek restaurant in Nantwich.

The small business initiative was introduced by the local MP, with the aim of recognising and celebrating the contributions of local small businesses within the Nantwich and Crewe area.

The Greek Taverna St Martha is run by Kelly Woodnutt, 38, and her partner Vasileios Kourtidis, 47 (Connor Naismith MP).

Woodnutt said: "We are honoured and humbled to receive this award and would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us.

"Our community is what makes us and so to be recognised by them in this way is very special to us"

The couple met working at a Greek restaurant in Australia and moved back to Nantwich in 2019 to open St Martha.

Naismith said: "Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy."

The winner of this month's award was announced on Saturday 7 December and will subsequently be revealed on the last Friday of each month.

The local MP said this award offers an opportunity to show appreciation and encourage support for local businesses.

Kelly Woodnutt and Vasileios Kourtidis met working at a Greek restaurant in Australia and moved back to Nantwich in 2019 to open St Martha (Ellie Hammonds).

The public was invited to nominate their favourite small businesses based on factors such as customer service, innovation, community contributions and sustainability.

Winners of the award were chosen by a panel led by Mr Naismith and his team and are selected based on the strength of the nominations.

Every winner will be visited by Mr Naismith and presented a framed certificate.
