Major road in Nantwich closed until weekend

A major road in Nantwich is now closed until at least the weekend, allowing urgent gas maintenance works to take place in the town.

Wellington Road, between its junctions with Station Yard and Hillfield Place, is closed to motorists until Saturday 1 June.

Cadent Gas commenced work at the site on Tuesday 28 May, causing traffic disruption around Nantwich Railway Station.

Vehicular access on Wellington Road will be maintained for emergency vehicles and residents where possible (Ryan Parker).

Motorists are being diverted via: Pillory Street South, Park Road Roundabout, Station Road, Pratchitts Row, Hosipital Street, London Road Roundabout, Newcastle Road, Elwood Way, Peter De Stapleigh Way, Audlem Road and Wellington Road.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "Pedestrian access to any premises situated within the temporary closure will be maintained at all times.

"Cyclists will be required to dismount in order for access to be maintained.

"Vehicular access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and residents where possible.

"The closure is necessary for works to be carried out by Cadent Gas.

"It is anticipated works will take place between Tuesday 28 May and the end of Friday 31 May.
