Facilities at Woore Cricket Club are set for an upgrade, after county planners gave "exciting" expansion plans the green light.
New changing rooms will be built at Woore Cricket Club, near the border with Cheshire and Staffordshire, after Shropshire Council granted permission to build a two-storey extension at the club's Falcon Field home.
The scheme will see two new dressing rooms built to English Cricket Board (ECB) standards, while an extension to the main pavillion building will expand the size of the clubhouse and allow the club to create "more flexible" communal facilities.
A small balcony will also be created on the first floor of the building, which the club says will provide a viewing area for players.
"The existing changing rooms fell under the minimum ECB requirements, hence why the new extension has been proposed to accommodate the compliant changing rooms," said a planning statement supplied with the club's application.
"The proposed development will consist of alteration to the existing clubhouse to improve existing facilities, to extend to the west with a two-storey extension that will house new ECB compliant changing rooms (one on each floor level).
"There is a single storey extension to the rear that will house a new bar store, freeing up space internally to increase the size and flexibility of the club room."
Despite lying inside the Shropshire border, Woore Cricket Club is located just 1.4 miles from Bridgmere Garden Centre.
The club competes in the North Staffs and South Cheshire league, with its new plans receiving enthusiastic backing from the Shropshire's cricket board, describing them as 'exciting' in a letter supporting the application.
"We are delighted to see the exciting plans for Woore CC, which will certainly meet the visitor expectations whether player or supporter," said Cricket Shropshire's lead officer Steve Reese.
"The club have an excellent reputation of being a warm and welcoming club, with a strong base of youngsters, an ever expanding women and girls section on a site which has it's limitations and challenges.
"These facilities will deliver for the needs of the club and community to enjoy for generations to come and help support the ECB and Cricket Shropshire's vision of cricket being a game for all."
Approving the scheme, Shropshire Council's planning officers said the development would "modernise and enhance" the existing site as well as providing additional facilities.
"It is felt that any visual impact caused by the proposal would be minimal," raid the officer's report.
"The proposed development is appropriate in its design and scale and it will not have a detrimental impact upon the character and appearance of the existing building or the surrounding area."
