New food waste bins are being delivered to residents across Cheshire East from Monday 6 July, with the majority of Crewe and Nantwich residents part of 'phase one.'

Ahead of the weekly food waste collections launching in Cheshire East this autumn, residents will soon receive a package containing everything they need to prepare for the new recycling service.

From 6 July, thousands of outdoor food waste caddies will start to be delivered to residents across Cheshire East ahead of the new service starting in autumn this year.

Crewe and Nantwich residents will receive their caddies during phase one, with nearby areas such as Bridgemere, Hatherton, Henhull, Hough, Shavington, Stapeley, Weston, Willaston, Wistaston and Wybunbury part of phase two.

Audlem, Barbridge, Bunbury, Haslington, Minshull and Wrenbury is then phase three.

Cheshire East Council cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, Cllr David Jefferay, said: "New weekly food waste collections are a huge step forward for recycling in Cheshire East and means more of the waste that's collected can be transformed into something new, in this case, compost.

"Delivering a new recycling service takes a large amount of planning and work, and so it's great news to now be at the point where our residents are about to receive all they need to prepare for food waste collections starting.

"With around 182,000 outdoor food waste caddies and bins to be delivered, it will take some time for everyone to receive theirs. That's why we're asking residents not to start using their caddy/wheelie bin as soon as they receive it or put it out for collection.

"The council's website will be updated with residents' exact collection start dates by mid-September.

"Residents will then also be able to check if there is any change to their collection day, as collection routes and schedules are being updated to incorporate the new food waste service."

Food waste caddy delivery phases

  • Phase 1: Crewe and Middlewich
  • Phase 2: Bridgemere, Hatherton, Henhull, Hough, Nantwich, Shavington, Stapeley, Weston, Willaston, Wistaston and Wybunbury
  • Phase 3: Audlem, Barbridge, Bunbury, Calveley, Cholmondley, Haslington, Hassall Green, Minshull, Rode Heath, Sandbach and Wrenbury
  • Phase 4: Alsager, Congleton (part), Holmes Chapel, Mow Cop, Scholar Green, Siddington
  • Phase 5: Congleton and Macclesfield
  • Phase 6: Alderley Edge, Bollington, Bosley, Disley, Handforth, High Legh, Kettleshulme, Knutsford, Mere, Mobberley, Mottram St Andrews, Peover/Marthall, Poynton, Prestbury, Rainow, Tytherington, Wildboarclough and Wilmslow

All food waste caddies are expected to be delivered by mid-September and will be distributed by an external company on behalf of the council.

Each caddy will contain information about how to use the service, plus a sticker for the caddy lid, which has space for residents to add their house number.

Residents living in flats or shared accommodation will be given either an individual caddy or be provided with a new communal 140-litre food waste wheelie bin.

Generally, properties where there are three or more flats will be given a communal bin.

Residents should not start using their caddy/wheelie bin straight away and should check when their start date is, and whether there is any change to their collection day HERE.

What a load of horrible waste for a council that's cash strapped I'm going to put mine back on the wagon or in the garden

What a load of horrible water I'm not going to fill mine I'm going to dump it in the garden as it's a waste of money for an out of money council

A reminder to everyone that introducing food waste bins and associated weekly collections is an England-wide rule that a quarter of councils (Cheshire East included) missed the deadline for back in March. You can complain about the council wasting money all you want, but this was mandated by central government (who also gave out grants to councils to get started).

Remember the confusion about the green bin we had last time,
Just imagine you have got an apple 🍏 tree in your garden you pick the apple's of it to make a pie,
Now some apple's are rotten and unpealed so do these go in the little green bin or do they go in the garden waste bin.
Now because the black bin is only going to be emptied every three weeks what about health and safety when the refuge collector says sorry I can't take your black bin on health grounds it's to heavy to wheel or move,
What happens now.
Now considering the environment how many emissions have been pumped into the air damaging the ozone layer making these little green cadies, and further more by the look of the photo will they be distributed by a diesel ⛽ vehicle and when the time comes they will be using a diesel vehicle to collect you food waste.
Why also do they have to be distributed by a third party,
What is wrong with CEC distributing them or is this so as we can be ripped off again with high prices obviously being charged to the Rate payers in next years council rise cost.
I'm all for saving food waste but to do this we must as the old saying says,
(YOUR EYES ARE BIGGER THAN YOUR BELLY)
just stop and think am I going to eat all this or is it going to waste.
Today's society can bearly put food on the table with sky high prices these days.
I suppose the next venture CEC will be another bin for your news paper and magazines.
Following that a bin for glass.
The list is never ending.🤔🧐
