Plans for a car wash development on vacant land near Nantwich Town FC's stadium have been refused, following a large number of objections.

In April, applicant, Sim Woodhouse, applied for a change of use of part of land to form a car wash and valeting operation, at the westerly junction of Waterlode and Reaseheath Way, to the south of Nantwich Football Club Car Park.

Over 60 residents, mainly neighbours, objected to the proposal earmarked for land, sometimes used as an overspill car park on match days.

One local resident said: "There are enough car washing facilities in Nantwich and nearby Crewe.

"This is not needed or welcome and will inconvenience thousands of people for the jobs of a handful."

16 members of the public, many living further afield, wrote to Cheshire East Council in support of the scheme.

The scheme was refused by the council on Wednesday 7 August.

A Cheshire East planning officer said: "The proposal by reason of its location adjacent to residential properties is considered to be unacceptable and would have an adverse impact on the living conditions of the neighbouring properties through noise and disturbance.

"The proposal by reason of siting and design would result in visual harm from the proposed buildings and would also result in a visual intensification of the site.

"The proposal would result in the loss of the existing overflow parking spaces which would displace vehicles onto the high resulting in severe highway safety impacts which would be particularly felt during match/event days."
