Richmond Villages Nantwich staff and residents participated in a special walk organised by Police Care UK, titled ‘Walk the Beat.'

Police Care UK is a charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing.

The event was held on PTSD Awareness Day *June 27) and promoted public support for veteran police officers who have been forced into early retirement due to PTSD.

Staff and residents of Richmond Villages Nantwich walked an impressive seven miles, some solo, with support, or in wheelchairs, to show support for the police in the community.

Richmond Villages Nantwich activities coordinator, Alan Fairclough, told Nub News: “Many of our residents and staff are ex-police officers or have connections to the police force, so this event was very important for us to participate and show our support.

“It was a really great day, everyone got to spend time together and feel supported. Our local PCSO team attended with a marked police car and held a surgery with residents to discuss any concerns.”

One resident, Virginia, said: “My father worked as an inspector in the Cheshire Police force and I have wonderful memories of the local police house in Nantwich.

"I didn’t know much about my father’s career, but Alan helped me research his career.

“I discovered he received two bravery commendations, including one for rescuing someone from the River Dee.

"I feel incredibly proud of him and grateful that Alan helped me find out more about him.

"I think it is so important to support our local Police and veterans, as they work so hard to help our community every single day.”
