Woore residents are being urged to make their voices heard as a developer appeals against the refusal of plans for a 65-home housing scheme on Audlem Road.

Muller Property Group has taken its case to the Government's Planning Inspector after Shropshire Council rejected its outline application for the site.

The original bid sparked strong local opposition, including 37 formal objections and concerns raised by Woore Parish Council.

Planners refused the scheme on the grounds that the land sits outside the village development boundary and is classed as open countryside.

They said the proposal represented an unjustified departure from local planning policy.

Officials also ruled the scale of the development would create an "unsympathetic extension" to the village, resulting in the permanent loss of agricultural land.

Further concerns were raised about pressure on local schools and community infrastructure.

In their decision, the council concluded the harm caused by the development outweighed the benefits, including the provision of affordable housing.

Technical Director at Muller Property Group, Steve Bourne, said: "We don't bring forward appeals lightly, but in this case the planning balance clearly supports development.

"Shropshire Council has acknowledged a significant housing land supply shortfall, and national policy is clear that sustainable sites should come forward in these circumstances.

"This is a logical extension to Woore, not an isolated or speculative proposal.

"The site is well connected to services, and the scheme has been designed to integrate with the village while delivering much-needed new homes, including affordable housing and public open space."

The appeal is now being considered by the Planning Inspectorate, which will make the final decision.

Residents who have already submitted objections do not need to resubmit them, but can add further comments. New representations must be submitted by Friday 10 July.
