Plans have been submitted to convert two former Nantwich NHS office buildings into 31 new apartments, with one needing listed building consent.

This winter, applicant, Andy Mines, of Greenhouse Property Management Ltd, submitted proposals for Bevan House and John Snow House, Barony Court.

The applicant wants to sub-divide and convert Bevan House and John Snow House into a total of 31 apartments.

13 of the residential units would be one-bed one-person apartments, with 18 planned to be one-bed two-person apartments (CEC Planning).

Each apartment would have its own living space, separate bedroom, kitchen and shower rooms.

Three cycle shelters, containing have been proposed for the site, along with bin storage.

Bevan House, the larger of the two buildings, is a three storey Grade-II Listed building with single storey extensions built onto on the western and rear elevations.

John Snow House is not listed in its own right, but is considered to be within the curtilage of Bevan House. There is a small garden containing mature trees between both buildings.

Both Nantwich buildings were last used by the NHS as administrative offices but are currently vacant.

The building was originally built in 1780 as a workhouse. It became Barony Hospital in the 1930s until closing in 1994.

Vehicular and pedestrian access to the car parking areas serving the two buildings is taken off Barony Court. There will be 46 spaces available.

A design and access statement reads: "The proposals do not involve any external alterations to either of the two application buildings concerned, the works proposed being restricted to the insertion of timber stud partition walls to form the apartments.

"It is not proposed to replace any windows or external doors as part of the scheme now submitted.

"No extensions are proposed to the application buildings, and the only visible external change in the appearance of the setting of the buildings will be the installation of the three proposed cycle shelters.

Proposed elevations to the Grade-II listed Bevan House (CEC Planning).

"These are of a simple and lightweight form of construction which have been sited such as to have minimal impact upon the open area forming the visual context for the buildings."

The last date for submitting comments on this application is Wednesday 26 February with a take decision date of Monday 3 March.
