Dog destroyed after attacking police with Nantwich estate put into lockdown
A dog was destroyed after it attacked and injured Cheshire Police officers at a Nantwich house, with the estate put into lockdown during the incident.
On Friday 24 January, police entered an address on Reaseheath Way, Kingsbourne Estate, making enquiries in relation to a wanted person.
During these enquiries, a male cane corso inside the home attacked two officers while attempting to bring it under control with sedation.
According to social media, the dog was crated by its owner after this attack.
Both officers needed hospital treatment with Kingsbourne Estate taped off for several hours.
Armed police were in attendance and the dog was later shot dead.
A 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of having a dangerously out-of-control dog.
Detective superintendent, Adam Waller, said: "This is a distressing incident, and officers did all they could to bring the dog under control.
"However, our priority is the safety of our officers and members of the public, and due to the immediate risk posed, the decision was made to destroy the dog.
"This was not a decision which was taken lightly.
"We would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident."
