Vision for Nantwich Ltd has submitted plans for a new 134-space car park, with associated access and landscaping improvements, on land at St. Annes Lane (CEC Planning).

Plans have been proposed for a new 134-space car park on "eye-sore" land in Nantwich, previously earmarked for a hotel and shopping area.

Applicant, Vision for Nantwich Ltd, has submitted plans for a new car park, with associated access and landscaping improvements, on land at St. Annes Lane.

Vision For Nantwich proposes 134 parking spaces across the brownfield site, including seven EV charging spaces, three disabled parking spaces and four motorcycle bays.

Cycle storage and a solar car port is also proposed for the "maximum efficiency" development.

A mixed-use development on the St. Annes Lane site, comprising a hotel, restaurants and apartments were recently shelved due to 'overwhelming' costs (Vision For Nantwich).

Made up of 0.7 hectares, the land was last used as an informal public car park and was historically the town's old gas works.

This has resulted in significant contamination issues over the years, with gas mains still running through the site.

Plans to turn the fly-tipped land into a mixed-use development comprising a hotel, restaurants and apartments were recently shelved due to "overwhelming" costs.

Nantwich North and West councillor, Anna Burton, said: "I would like like to write as a ward member in support of the application.

"This land has been an eye-sore for so long, I have had numerous complaints from residents with old mattresses been strewn on the site and it generally being used as a waste ground.

"There were plans for this area to be a hotel and shopping area, the costs became overwhelming, so this plan was ceased.

"Prior to that, the site was a well-used car park albeit in a state of disrepair.

Nantwich North and West councillor, Anna Burton, supports the new car park proposals (CEC).

"Returning the site to its former use as a much-improved car park will be an excellent use of the ground.

"We are in desperate need of car parking in Nantwich. This will radically improve the look and feel of his area of Nantwich, I readily approve of this application."

The last date for submitting comments on this application is Wednesday 2 April, with a target decision date of Wednesday 30 April.
