RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich has raised around £5,500 after hosting a successful summer fair.

Visitors to the fair enjoyed tours of the wildlife hospital and their new facilities to tackle Avian Flu and had access to the cattery, neither of which are normally open to the public.

A dog competition, run by the RSPCA Crewe and Nantwich Branch, which included categories such as 'dog most like its owner', 'waggiest tail' and 'golden oldies', proved popular.

That and a children's zone, organised by RSPCA Manchester and Salford Branch helped raise an additional £650 for domestic animals in the region.

There were also food, arts and craft stalls and carnival games, including archery.

RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre Manager, Lee Stewart said: "Our summer fair is one of the highlights of the year and we had a really great response from the public in Cheshire and surrounding areas.

"All the funds raised will directly support the thousands of wild, domestic and exotic casualties that come through our doors each year.

"We'd like to thank our neighbours BOOT Property at Stapeley House and Stapeley Technology Park for allowing us the use of their car park and field for this event.

"We could simply not put on the size of our event without their support.

"We'd also like to thank the following for their support in putting on what is a mammoth event: Simon Shutton who invited and managed the bands, Greenbank Company of Archers, Wyche Dog Training Club and all the stall holders, many of whom support us every year and everyone who supported our raffle that raised £1,000.

The RSPCA is urging people to choose kindness this summer and make a difference for animals.

By joining the charity's Summer of Kindness, animal lovers can take on Seven Acts of Kindness that are easy, family-friendly and make a real difference.
