Studio Nantwich is teaming up with Nantwich Police to support a community bicycle marking event, aimed at helping cyclists protect their bikes from theft.

The popular multi-level nightclub and live music venue is sponsoring the Nantwich Bike Social, taking place at Barony Skate Park on Barony Road on Saturday 15 August, from 12pm to 2pm.

The initiative has been inspired by the recent theft of a bicycle belonging to the son of Director of Operations at Studio Nantwich, Nigel Woodhouse.

Thanks to information provided by members of the local community and the work of Nantwich Police officers, the stolen bicycle was successfully recovered and returned, prompting Studio Nantwich to give something back by supporting the next police bike marking event.

Visitors can have their bicycles security marked free of charge, with each cycle receiving a unique identification code linked to the national BikeRegister database.

The scheme helps deter thieves and increases the chances of stolen bikes being reunited with their owners.

Everyone who has their bike marked on the day, or can show it's already been marked, will be entered into a prize draw to win £200 worth of Halfords vouchers.

The event will also feature free bike health checks carried out by a trained mechanic, complimentary soft drinks and snacks, and the chance for younger riders to demonstrate their cycling skills to local police officers.

No booking, registration documents or proof of ownership are required. cyclists simply need to bring their bicycle along on the day.

Studio Nantwich is also extending its community support beyond the event by contacting businesses in Nantwich that are popular with young people but currently lack bicycle parking facilities.

The venue is offering the free installation of Sold Secure bike lock anchors to help reduce cycle theft across the town.

Nigel said: "When my son's bike was stolen, it was naturally upsetting for our family. What happened next, however, showed exactly what makes Nantwich such a special place.

"Members of our community came forward with information, our local police officers acted quickly and professionally, and the bike was returned.

"We wanted to say thank you by helping other cyclists avoid going through the same experience.

"By sponsoring this Bike Social and supporting the police's bike marking initiative, we hope more people will protect their bikes and enjoy a great community afternoon at the same time."

The organisers are encouraging cyclists of all ages to attend with the message: "Lock it. Mark it. Don't lose it."
