Hair stylists at an established Nantwich salon swapped their scissors for spoons to bake for two charities close to their hearts.

Emma Gatenby (22) and Katie McClellan (20) at Steven Burgin Hairdressing, Hospital Street, sold their homemade cakes, flapjacks and biscuits as part of a week-long fundraiser for The Little Princess Trust and Nantwich Girl Guides.

Breakfast company Mornflake in Crewe, provided oats and recipe books to use in their delicious bakes which sold like 'hotcakes' with kind-hearted clients chipping in five and ten pound notes.

The sale ran from Tuesday 5 May to Saturday 9 May and made £250.

The Trust, which funds wigs for cancer suffers, is a regular beneficiary of fundraising events at the Nantwich salon.

Cash will also be shared with Nantwich Girl Guides, helping to fund materials for craft activities, something close to Emma's heart as a guide leader.

Salon owner, Steven Burgin, told Nub News: "We're incredibly proud of Emma and Katie for throwing themselves into this fundraiser. It's not something you see every day in a salon but it just shows the kind of heart our team has.

"The Little Princess Trust is a cause that means a great deal to us, and we're always looking for ways to support it, while backing local groups like Nantwich Girl Guides as well.

"The response from our clients as ever has been amazing, not just buying the bakes but donating generously too.

"It's been a real community effort, and we're grateful to everyone who's helped make it such a success especially Mornflake for its generous donation of ingredients."

Mornflake is also a major sponsor of the Nantwich Show again this year, taking place at Reaseheath College showground on July 29.

The family firm has been behind it for over 50 years and returns this year as headline sponsor of the popular Artisan Market.

Managing Director, James Lea added: "We were delighted to support the salon in its fundraising efforts. It's fantastic to see our oats used in such a creative and meaningful way to bring people together for two very worthwhile causes.

"Community initiatives like this really make a difference and we're proud to play a small part in helping raise funds for both The Little Princess Trust and Nantwich Girl Guides."

Steven Burgin Hairdressing has been a landmark on Hospital Street for more than 25 years and has notched up many industry awards for excellence.
