Nantwich primary school goes wild for David Attenborough Day
By Ryan Parker 12th May 2026
Children at Acton CE Academy enjoyed a full day of outdoor learning, environmental activities and creative exploration as the school came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of David Attenborough.
The aim of the special 'David Attenborough Day' was to inspire children to develop a love of the natural world and a greater understanding of the importance of protecting the environment, values Sir David has championed throughout his life and career.
Throughout the day on 8 May, every child took part in Forest School activities, giving pupils the opportunity to explore nature through hands-on outdoor learning experiences.
Children enjoyed a wide range of activities including, making bird feeders, planting sunflower seeds, digging for 'mini beasts' and toasting popcorn over the campfire.
Pupils also created their own mini nature documentaries inspired by Sir David Attenborough's work, using the school grounds and outdoor spaces to investigate wildlife, habitats and the world around them.

The Forest School area at Acton CE Academy has been developed over the last 18 months by Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Natalie Berrington (SENDCo), and has become an outdoor space, offering children a sense of adventure and escape, despite being just at the end of the school field.
Thanks to the sunny weather, the whole school was also able to enjoy lunch outdoors together with a "particular highlight" being the 'wiggly worm' cupcakes, specially made by the school cook.
Mrs Berrington, told Nub News: "Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday gave our children a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about the environment around them.
"The children thoroughly enjoyed the Forest School activities and showed fantastic creativity while making their own documentaries.
"It was a brilliant day of outdoor learning and discovery for everyone involved."
