Nantwich policeman hits 10 million views in viral 'crossbar challenge' at local park

A Nantwich policeman has gone viral on social media with over 10 million views, nailing the crossbar challenge with kids at a local park in just one atttempt.

Community sergeant for Nantwich, Matt Stonier, left local high school youths stunned when whipping a ball from range straight at the goalpost while in full uniform at Lettie Spencer Recreation Ground, Willaston.

Sgt Stoner had been egged on by the lads to take part in the challenge, with the group shouting "Go on policeman, come on," and he certainly didn't disappoint.

Nantwich Police said they couldn't remember a more 'universally positive' reaction to the viral video (Nantwich Police).

When striking the crossbar, slap bang in the middle of the goal frame, Sgt Stoner was met with huge roar as the youths charged in to celebrate with him.

Nantwich Police, delighted with the positive community engagement, posted on Facebook: "Talk about pressure in policing.

"When cops take on kids at the crossbar challenge there can only be one winner!

"Some say they are still celebrating now.

"What a great group from year 7s to late teens, all out in the sun playing the sport they love.

"Every single one of them polite, funny, interested in local policing and couldn't have been more welcoming of Sgt Stonier's eagerness to join in."

Comments flooded in to praise the police, with one saying: "Need more cops on the beat in the community actually interacting with people like this, especially youngsters.

Following the viral video, Nantwich Police joked they had commenced an urgent review into police issue footwear (Nantwich Police).

"Would definitely help towards people respecting cops again."

Another said: "This is how you bring the community and police closer. He is showing them kids he is just human and having a good time."

Before hitting the 10 million target, Nantwich Police said: "Fridays crossbar challenge post continues to take police on social media to whole new levels.

Of course we are bias, but we certainly can't remember such a universally positive reaction. Your warmth and support has been felt across Cheshire Police."
