A trio from Cheshire took on a UK mountaineering challenge, raising much-needed funds for a children's hospice.

Three members of Cheshire-based Redrow NW took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, taking on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).

Will Staton, from Nantwich, took on the challenge with his colleagues Harry Whalley, from Ellesmere Port, and Simon Downing, from Chester, to raise funds for the division's chosen charity, Claire House Children's Hospice.

This is the second time Will has taken on a peak challenge, last year he took part in the National Three Peaks Challenge with his Redrow colleagues, tackling the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

Will, a land negotiator at Redrow, told Nub News: "The Yorkshire Peaks was more unrelenting and physically more demanding than the national challenge, simply because there was no designated time to rest.

"There was also more of pressure to complete this one, we were racing the fading light as we had no provision to complete the walk in the dark.

"But we were successful and completed the challenge in 11 hours and we're raising funds for such a worthy cause."

Claire House Children's Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children and has two sites, one on the Wirral and the other in Liverpool.

The specialist team provides day-care, complementary therapies, clinics, counselling and play and music sessions.

Interim managing director at Redrow NW, Phil Reeves, said: "Huge congratulations to Will, Harry and Simon.

"This challenge takes so much dedication, I know they spent many hours training for this too. Well done."
