A fitness instructor at Nantwich Leisure Centre is putting her best foot forward in the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April, in memory of a little boy who touched many hearts with his brave battle against cancer.

It will be the second marathon, Mia Kinnest, 22, of Wistaston, has undertaken to help raise money for The Bone Cancer Trust inspired by the much-loved Wistaston youngster Georgy Capener, who sadly passed away in December 2024, aged just 15.

Mia, a trainer and class leader with Everybody Health and Leisure at Nantwich, smashed her £2,500 target last year raising a massive £3,787 with support from family, friends and gym members.

She's on the road to exceeding it once again while training to beat her 5 hour finish time last year. 

Mia said: "My first time training for a marathon I hit a block but it feels easier this year and the support I'm getting from all the members is just fantastic.

"I'm up to 20 miles right now so need to dig in to get those extra miles under my belt. My strategy - I stick on multiple podcasts and snack on sugar filled sweets – what's not to enjoy.

"London last year was my biggest achievement and a memory that will stick forever.

"Not only because I achieved a dream but because I got to raise money for a charity that goes above and beyond for patients and their families in addition to the research that goes into finding breakthroughs." 

Mia is once again racing towards her £2,500 target. Bake sales, hampers, a quiz and Christmas walk around Nantwich town have helped along the way. 

A fundraising night at Sandbach Rugby Club this Friday will give it another boost. The evening includes a two-course meal, quiz, raffle, DJ and disco.

Mia added: "I have dedicated both of my runs to raising as much money as possible. But the London Marathon is very much for Georgy.

"A family friend, a hero and a young man with the kindest heart. Georgy was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma – a form of bone cancer. 

"He made a huge impact on so many people, for the courage, bravery and generosity he shared. 

"As I raise as much money as possible, I remember that Georgy would have been the first in line to help fundraise and as I run my second 26.2 mile distance, I remember how much strength Georgy carried. 

"That alone, will take me all the way with a big smile on my face. Indeed every step I take will be with Georgy in mind."
