Book lovers are being invited to enjoy an inspiring series of author evenings as the Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge has unveiled its latest programme of literary events.

The independent bookshop and award-winning café, based at 46 High Street, has been a fixture in the town since 2003.

Housed in a striking 16th-century timber-framed building in the centre of Nantwich, the family-run business continues to draw readers from across Cheshire with its packed calendar of literary evenings.

The autumn programme features bestselling novelists, well-known personalities and fascinating real-life stories.

The first event takes place on Tuesday 25 August, when readers can hear the remarkable true story behind The Ukulele Man.

The book tells the extraordinary story of Tom Boardman, a talented ukulele player from Leigh who was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore during the Second World War.

Despite enduring brutal conditions as a Prisoner of War on the infamous Thai-Burma Railway, Tom built homemade ukuleles from discarded materials, using music to lift the spirits of fellow prisoners and help them through years of captivity.

His remarkable resilience, determination and love of music ensured that neither hardship nor imprisonment could extinguish his spirit. One of the handmade ukuleles featured in the story is now permanently displayed at the Imperial War Museum North.

On Thursday 17 September, acclaimed author Nathalie Abi-Ezzi will discuss her latest novel, All The Lives She Lived.

The atmospheric historical novel follows Doris, a young woman in 1917 Birmingham whose life is turned upside down after discovering the family she believed dead has been living only streets away.

Her search for answers takes her from England to Baghdad and Beirut in a moving story exploring identity, family secrets and belonging.

Television fans can look forward to Friday 9 October, when actor Charlie Lawson, best known for playing Jim McDonald in Coronation Street, will be at the bookshop to discuss his candid autobiography, That's Life, So It Is, sharing stories from both his acting career and personal life.

The programme concludes on Wednesday 21 October, when bestselling novelist Cathy Bramley will be joined by fellow author Suzan Holder to talk about Cathy's latest festive romance, Not Just For Christmas, promising an entertaining evening ahead of the Christmas reading season.
