Plans have been submitted to expand an award-winning golf centre near Nantwich, with a new driving range, putting greens and extended hospitality facilities proposed.

Need Golf Centre, Main Road, Worleston, wants to transform agricultural land next to its existing facility to create a bigger sports and leisure venue.

The family-run business was founded by PGA professional James Need and his wife Sophie, attracting more than 50,000 visitors each year.

Their proposals include a new single-storey driving range building with 14 standard bays, a dedicated teaching bay and custom-fitting bays.

There would also be putting and short-game practice areas, alongside outdoor seating.

A separate outdoor short-game area is planned, featuring a nine-hole putting green, a chip-and-putt target green and a bunker.

The expansion would also bring a bigger food and drink offer, with a kitchen, bar, reception, customer facilities and indoor and outdoor seating.

An additional Academy Driving Range building is proposed to increase coaching capacity.

James and Sophie Need say the golf centre expansion would bring economic benefits to the Nantwich area (Photo: Need Golf).

The plans include more parking, accessible spaces, electric vehicle charging points, improved site access, new landscaping, drainage works and perimeter netting.

Need Golf was recently named England Golf Facility of the Year 2026. It also received the Toptracer Range of the Year award for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The planning statement, prepared by Vossen Planning, says the development would make golf more accessible to people of different ages and abilities.

It says: "Need Golf's vision is to challenge traditional golf model constraints, by creating an accessible, family-focused design that removes barriers to participation."

The statement adds that the aim is to create a modern, inclusive facility where people can take part in sport, recreation and social activities.

James and Sophie say the expansion would bring economic benefits to the Nantwich area by creating jobs, supporting local supply chains and strengthening the area's reputation for sport and leisure.

The last date for submitting comments is Wednesday 25 November, with a target decision date of Wednesday 23 December.
