A fundraiser has been launched in memory of a local teenager, after police recovered a body from Pickmere Lake near Northwich.

Cheshire Police were called to the lake at around 4.50pm on Tuesday 26 May, following reports of a missing 17-year-old boy who was last seen in the water.

Emergency services, including the police helicopter, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and specialist underwater search teams, carried out extensive searches of the area.

Police later confirmed a body had been recovered from the lake, with his death not being treated as suspicious.

The teenager has been named locally as David-Junior Tita, from Crewe.

A JustGiving fundraiser has now been set up to support his family with funeral costs.

Organiser, Leon Webster, from Crewe, wrote: "I'm raising £2,500 to help a friend loved by many people.

"David unfortunately passed away and this JustGiving page is dedicated to him.

"All funds gathered from this page will go directly to David's family to aid them in funding his funeral."

Police have urged people visiting Pickmere Lake to park responsibly and be aware of the risks associated with open water swimming.

Chief Inspector, Jamie Lewis, said: "This was a young boy who had his entire life ahead of him.

"At what is an incredibly difficult time, our thoughts remain with the boy's family, friends and everyone who knew him."
