A community fundraiser has been launched after a local man lost everything when a devastating house fire destroyed his South Cheshire home.

Duncan was left with "nothing but the clothes he was wearing" after the blaze tore through the Wrenbury property, leaving him facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding his life from scratch.

The fire, which broke out on Sandfield Avenue on 18 July, involved two semi-detached homes and saw firefighters from across Cheshire and neighbouring counties battle the flames.

Crews from Nantwich, Crewe, Chester, Winsford, Northwich and Middlewich attended the scene, alongside support from Shropshire and Staffordshire fire services.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said firefighters were initially called after reports of a shed well alight behind the properties.

They said: "It is believed the shed contained gas canisters and despite the efforts of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel water jets to contain it, the fire spread to the first floor of one of the houses and then into the adjoining property."

Firefighters worked through the early hours to bring the blaze under control, while neighbouring residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Thankfully, there were no casualties.

A GoFundMe appeal has now been set up by Gemma to support Duncan, his family and his neighbour Margaret, whose roof and bedroom were badly affected by the fire.

The fundraiser will help provide essential items including clothing, toiletries, food, household goods and furniture as Duncan begins the process of creating a new home.

Gemma said: "In just a matter of moments, he [Duncan] lost the home he had lived in for decades.

"He now faces the overwhelming task of starting over from scratch.

"Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. Your compassion will help give Duncan and Margaret hope as they begin the long journey of rebuilding."

At the time of publication, more than £4,700 had already been raised as residents rallied around those affected by the devastating fire.

People are being encouraged to continue supporting the appeal by donating or sharing it with friends and family to help Duncan and Margaret through the difficult months ahead.
