Nantwich Town FC has strengthened its backroom team ahead of the 2026/27 season with the appointment of its first-ever full-time Football Analyst, as Crewe-born George Edge-Robinson takes on the role.

The 20-year-old has recently completed a Sports Performance Analysis and Talent Identification degree at St Mary's University, Twickenham, and has now joined the Dabbers men's coaching staff on a permanent basis after working behind the scenes with the club since January.

George will play a key role in supporting the coaching staff throughout the season, providing detailed analysis of performances, preparing for upcoming opponents and assisting during training sessions and on matchdays.

Football analysts have become increasingly important at clubs across the game, turning statistics, video footage and tactical observations into practical information that helps managers and players improve performances.

While supporters often focus on what happens on the pitch, analysts work behind the scenes studying every aspect of the game.

They review passing patterns, defensive shape, pressing, attacking movements and individual performances before producing reports and video clips that help coaches make informed decisions.

They also spend hours analysing upcoming opponents, identifying strengths, weaknesses and tactical trends to help shape match plans.

On matchdays, analysts monitor games live, tagging key moments and providing coaches with immediate feedback that can influence tactical changes during the match.

Modern analysts also use specialist software and performance data to monitor player development, evaluate recruitment targets and reduce injury risk by tracking physical workloads throughout the season.

George said: "It's a fantastic opportunity to become Nantwich Town's first full-time Football Analyst.

"I've really enjoyed working with the staff and players since January, so to now make that role permanent is something I'm very proud of.

"My aim is to provide the coaching team with clear, detailed analysis that helps the players improve and gives us every possible advantage on matchdays.

"I'm looking forward to continuing to learn and helping the club have a successful season."

Nantwich Town manager Luke Goddard welcomed the appointment, saying: "George has been a brilliant addition to the coaching team since joining us in January.

"His work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to learn have really impressed everyone at the club.

"Having a dedicated full-time analyst is another important step forward for Nantwich Town, and the insight George provides will be invaluable as we continue to develop both individually and collectively throughout the season."
