Fire crews called to car blaze in busy South Cheshire street

Fire crews have been called to serious car blaze in South Cheshire, with the incident happening in the middle of a busy village street.

On Wednesday 9 July, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident on Shropshire Street, Audlem, outside Co-op Food.

At 12.16pm, two fire engines from Nantwich arrived at the scene, discovering a red Vauxhall Insignia in flames from the front of the vehicle.

Nantwich firefighters blocked off the Audlem road and quickly put out the flames.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the car blaze, with the driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman from Crewe, arrested after failing to provide a drugs wipe.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently fighting a fire involving a car using two hose reel jets.

"The road is closed in both directions.

"Further updates will be added when available."
