FIFA World Cup theme to bring extra 'flavour' to local Village Fete
By Ryan Parker/Jonathan White 7th Jun 2026
Residents are being invited to enjoy an afternoon of family fun, live entertainment and community spirit as the annual Wistaston Village Fete returns, with a football-inspired celebration of the FIFA World Cup 2026,
This community event takes place on Saturday 20 June, from 1pm to 4pm at Wistaston Church Lane Academy, Church Lane.
This year's fete is generously supported by Whitegates Crewe, with organisers promising a packed programme of attractions and entertainment for all ages.
With the FIFA World Cup 2026 set to feature 48 nations competing across the United States, Canada and Mexico, organisers have chosen an international football theme for this year's festivities.
Children are being encouraged to take part in a World Cup-themed fancy dress competition by dressing as footballers or wearing traditional clothing representing one of the competing nations.
The competition will begin at 1.30pm in the academy reception car park, with prizes of £20 for first place, £10 for second and £5 for third, while all runners-up will receive a small prize.

There will also be a special award for the best-decorated stall embracing the World Cup theme.
Visitors can look forward to a lively afternoon featuring the traditional crowning of the Rose Queen, alongside a wide range of stalls, games and the ever-popular tombola. Hot food, refreshments and ice cream will be available throughout the day.
Families will also be able to enjoy face painting and a bouncy castle, while a classic car display is expected to attract enthusiasts from across the region. Live entertainment and arena performances will keep the atmosphere buzzing across the afternoon.
Entry to the fete is by voluntary cash donation at the gate, with proceeds helping to support future community activities and events. Organisers have also reminded visitors that only assistance dogs are permitted on the school premises.
As preparations continue, volunteers are being sought to help make the event another success.
Wistaston Community News & Events is appealing for helpers to assist with putting up pop-up gazebos between 8.30am and 10.30am on fete day, as well as helping dismantle them between 4.30pm and 5.30pm afterwards.
A spokesperson for Wistaston Community News & Events said: "The Village Fete is always one of the highlights of the year in Wistaston and we're excited to bring a World Cup flavour to the event in 2026.
'It's a fantastic opportunity for families, friends and neighbours to come together and celebrate everything that makes our community special.
"We're incredibly grateful for the support we receive each year, but events like this can only happen thanks to volunteers.
'Whether it's helping with the gazebos on fete day or supporting our other events throughout the year, any time people can give really does make a huge difference."
The organisation is also encouraging new volunteers to get involved with a range of upcoming community events, including the Flower and Produce Show in August, the Duck Race and Children's Model Boat Race in September, the Fireworks Display in November and the Christmas Concert in December.
Additional volunteers are also welcomed to support the running of the community's 100 Club Lottery and the production of the popular Roundabout Magazine.
