Cheshire East Council has issued an apology over missed and delayed bin collections in Crewe and Nantwich, after facing "significant challenges."

Local residents have been recently been in touch with Nub News regarding missed rubbish collections in South Cheshire, including Hough, Shavington, Wybunbury and Crewe East.

Cheshire East has since offered an explanation for this, citing, shortages of HGV drivers and loading staff, with staffing levels below its "full quota."

The council says its team are working "extremely hard" to get its refuse service back on track, with crews covering additional shifts, including weekends, as well as a new recruitment drive.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council told Nub News: "We would like to reassure residents we are working hard to provide a reliable service.

"Like many councils across the country, we've been facing significant challenges including shortages of HGV drivers and loading staff.

"Our waste and recycling operational teams are currently operating with staffing levels below our full quota.

"To manage this, crews have been covering additional shifts and at weekends while we continue to actively recruit and bring new employees into the service.

"Ensuring a consistent, high‑quality waste collection service remains a priority for the council, and we are taking steps to increase staffing resilience and improve service reliability as well as actively recruiting to bring new employees into the service.

"We understand that residents expect a reliable service, and our teams are working extremely hard to get services back on track.

"We want to apologise to residents who have experienced missed or delayed bin collections in recent weeks and sorry for the inconvenience caused."
