Body found in Nantwich river following search for missing teenage boy

The body of a teenage boy has been found in Nantwich's River Weaver, believed to be the missing Jonty Evans.

Cheshire Police confirmed a body had been found at 5.13pm on Sunday 1 September.

This body has not been formally identified, but police believe it is that of the 16-year-old Baddington teenager.

Officers, search and rescue teams and family and friends of Jonty had been searching around the River Weaver, Nantwich Lake and the weir, near Mill Island today (September 1).

Jonty, went missing on Friday night around 11pm, with his bag was found on Mill Island on the morning of Saturday 31 August.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 5.13pm on Sunday 1 September, police searching the River Weaver near Riverside, Nantwich, as part of enquiries into the report of a missing teenager, sadly found a body.

"While formal ID has not yet taken place, it is believed to be that of the 16-year-old boy who has been missing since 30 August from the Nantwich area.

"Next of kin have been informed."
