A number of readers have contacted Nub News about the untidy state of the area in front of Cheshire East Council's Westfields offices.

Readers say they are "dismayed" at the number of weeds poking through the pavement and the overgrown state of the fountain in front of the building.

One said she could not believe the state of the grounds around the building as she was driving past.

"I was shocked at the disgraceful state of the grounds around the building," said the reader who did not want to be named. "Weeds, ivy infestation and the old fountain is a mess.

"I know Cheshire East plan to sell it off but surely they have a responsibility to maintain it for now? It sends such a poor message out about our town."

Cheshire East's corporate policy committee took the decision to close Westfields in November 2023, after saying with many staff working from home, it no longer needs so much office space.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council told Nub News: "The site is currently still open and used as council offices.

"Staff will be moving out over the coming months. There is no official closing date for the building as yet."

Weeds are being left to grow all over the area outside Cheshire East's Westfields HQ (Nub News).

It is not yet known what the purpose will be for the site once it closes.

Most staff who work here are being moved to Crewe's Delamere House as part of the move.
