What is Shared Reading?
A group of people, one or more of which will be a trained Reader Leader get together to read a novel, short story or poem aloud. We will stop and talk about what we are reading as we go. It's fine not to read aloud or speak - it's also great just to listen. We want to create a space where people feel at ease.
Our Shared Reading Group will be free to attend and open to all, and will also be Dementia friendly. Shared Reading has been found to have great benefits, including improving wellbeing, reducing social isolation by helping people o feel more connected to others, and helping people to have a greater sense of purpose.
The benefits to those living with Dementia are also great. A study by The Reader found that Shared Reading can significantly improve the quality of life for those living with Dementia as well as providing valuable benefits to relatives of those living with Dementia.
