A white flag has been raised in Willaston following the death of former parish councillor John M. Flackett.

John served on the council for 15 years and was widely known in the village for his involvement in community events and local initiatives.

He played a key role organising the annual village fete and was a longstanding member of Willaston in Bloom, where he would devote hours of his time making the village look beautiful.

In 2019, John received the council's 'Award for Meritorious Service' in recognition of his contribution.

Willaston Parish Council said: "The council is saddened to learn of the passing of former councillor John M. Flackett.

"John was well known throughout the village and, during his 15 years as a councillor, took an active role in many aspects of the council's work.
