Residents of Nantwich were reeling after Storm Darragh battered the region, causing the River Weaver to burst its banks and flood large parts of the town.

Torrential rain and gale-force winds struck, leaving streets submerged and causing significant disruption to homes, businesses, and transport routes.

Emergency services were on high alert as the storm intensified. The River Weaver had swollen beyond its capacity, spilling into surrounding areas.

The iconic riverside walkways near Nantwich Bridge were completely submerged, and parts of Mill Island resembled a lake as water levels rose rapidly.

The high winds brought a number of trees down across Nantwich roads and paths, with some roads blocked for several hours.

Morrisons supermarket closed at 5pm on Saturday 7 December due to damage to its roof caused by the storm-force winds.

An Environment Agency (EA), flood warning was place along the River Weaver in Nantwich across the weekend, with levels up to 1.92m higher than normal.

This warning is now over, with the EA saying: "Today (December 9), there is very low risk of flooding."
