Former England football star Jill Scott MBE cycled through Nantwich on Tuesday 9 June, as part of an extraordinary charity challenge crossing the country.

Scott is taking on Comic Relief's Sport Relief "Coming Home Challenge," a gruelling five-day journey covering nearly 400 miles from Wembley Stadium in London to the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

The route reflects key locations from her football career, as well as the grassroots beginnings that helped shape her success.

The 39-year-old is combining long-distance cycling with marathon running across the week, travelling through cities including Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester before finishing in the North East on Friday 12 June.

Her journey will end with a final extended run into Sunderland, her hometown.

During the challenge, Scott is stopping at football grounds and community projects, meeting people supported by Sport Relief and highlighting how sport can help bring communities together.

The aim is to raise vital funds for projects across the UK that use sport to create safe, inclusive environments and support people facing hardship or isolation.

Scott, who earned more than 160 caps for England, is one of the most recognisable figures in women's football.

She played for clubs including Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa, and was part of the Lionesses squad that won the UEFA Women's Euro 2022.

Since retiring from international football, she has remained a popular public figure, also winning 'I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!' in 2022.

Local residents in Nantwich turned out to catch a glimpse of the Lioness as she passed through the town, with many stopping to cheer her on as she continues her demanding journey north.
