Crewe and Nantwich green gap could be cut with 188 new homes
By Ryan Parker 29th Apr 2026
Plans have been put forward for almost 200 new homes, set within the strategic green gap between Crewe and Nantwich.
Applicant, Redrow Homes North West has submitted full planning for 188 properties on land to the north west of Crewe Road in Wistaston/Willaston.
Of these new two-storey homes, Redrow wants a combination of 32 two-bed, 89 three-bed and 67 four-bed, comprising a mix of detached, semi-detached and mews.
30 per cent of these (57 dwellings) would be affordable, with new open space, planting walking and cycling routes, drainage infrastructure and a children's play area proposed.
Vehicular access is intended via a priority-controlled T-junction onto Crewe Road, with a package of off-site highway works planned to improve the Crewe Road/Wistaston Road junction.

This includes the installation of a new puffin crossing, replacing the existing uncontrolled pedestrian refuge island.
A planning statement reads: "One of the key elements of the design is to create an attractive, multi-functional landscape setting.
"The green infrastructure within the site, will deliver functional, well-designed spaces enhancing biodiversity and landscape character, as well as providing play and recreation opportunities including a circular walking route and a play area.
"The alignment of the existing Public Right of Way (Wistaston FP9/1) will be retained. New structural planting to the northern and western site edges will form part of the proposals.
"The layout has been designed to reflect local needs of Wistaston and Cheshire East, which incorporates a variety of house types and sizes.

"The layout consists of a range of units, comprising of 2-, 3-and 4-bedroom homes. The scheme provides a mix of semi-detached, detached and terraced units, reflective of the surrounding area.
"Focal buildings are positioned at corners and at the site entrance to create a sense of hierarchy within the development and an entrance gateway from the east.
"Particular care has been taken regarding the positioning of new development adjacent to existing development at Crewe Road.
"The focus is on outward facing development towards the open fields to the north and west.
"Substantial planting is proposed along the north-western boundary to mitigate views from the surrounding landscape.
"There will be a substantial landscape buffer, and no development is proposed within the northern field parcel or along the western boundary."
The last date for submitting comments is Sunday 17 May, with a target decision date of 25 June.
