Plans have been given the green light to convert vacant agricultural buildings into new horse stables and an indoor arena, at a Nantwich farm.

On Tuesday 6 August, Cheshire East Council approved Pervical's application for land at Henhull Hall, Welshmans Lane.

With these proposals, redundant agricultural buildings and land will be converted into 14 stables, an indoor arena and an area for horse grazing.

This agricultural land at Henhull Hall is not of sufficient size to fulfil its current purpose (Percival).

Henhull Hall and the area around it stands at the site of where the Battle of Nantwich was fought in 1644.

A Cheshire East planning officer said: "The principle of development within the settlement boundary is accepted.

"The benefits of the proposal would be economic benefits from the operation of the business and its employment, social and health/wellbeing benefit to end users.

"The development will not have a detrimental impact upon residential amenity (including for future occupants in terms of noise and contaminated land).

"The development would not have significant drainage/flood risk implications, with no harm to existing trees.

Redundant agricultural buildings and land will be converted into 14 stables, an indoor arena and an area for horse grazing (Percival).

"It would result in the loss of the existing agricultural use and associated land, however it has been demonstrated the site is not of sufficient size to fulfil its agricultural purpose and has been restricted by the wider Kingsley Fields allocation, where loss of this land was already accepted.

"In conclusion, the benefits of the proposal are considered to outweigh the loss of agricultural land.

"Therefore, the application would comply with the relevant policies of the Development Plan and is recommended for approval."
