The music community in Nantwich and beyond has been left deeply saddened following the death of legendary bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, who had been due to appear at a special, intimate event in the town this year.

The show, organised by Applestump Records and set to take place at Nantwich Town Football Club, would have seen Mani reflect on his remarkable career with two of Britain's most influential bands, The Stone Roses and Primal Scream.

Mani passed away in November 2025 at the age of 63, before the event could take place.

Born in Crumpsall, Manchester, Mani rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the bassist for The Stone Roses, playing on both of the band's iconic albums before their initial split in 1996.

He later became a key member of Primal Scream and, in 2011, rejoined The Stone Roses for their long-awaited reunion and stadium-filling comeback.

The Stone Roses are widely regarded as one of the most important British bands of the past 35 years, helping to shape the Madchester movement and paving the way for acts such as Oasis and The Verve.

Their legendary Spike Island concert in 1990, attended by 27,000 fans, remains one of the most talked-about gigs in UK music history, earning the nickname 'Madchester's Woodstock'. Mani was there every step of the way.

While the Nantwich event was cancelled following his heartbreaking passing, the response from ticket-holders has been one of generosity and compassion.

Many fans kindly asked for their ticket money to be donated in Mani's memory.

Steve Cook from Applestump Records contacted Mani's family, who requested that all donations be made to The Christie Charity, raising vital funds for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

With additional support from Applestump Records, a total of £500 has now been donated.

Steve Cook said: "Mani was a true giant of British music, and we were absolutely devastated by his passing.

"The kindness shown by the ticket-holders has been incredibly moving. Turning this event into a small tribute in his name, and supporting a charity chosen by his family, feels like the right thing to do.

"It's a testament to the respect and love people had for him."

The donation stands as a fitting and heartfelt legacy, honouring a musician whose influence will continue to resonate for generations.
