Hidden Peacock Railway launches 2026 season with official opening day
By Jonathan White 15th Apr 2026
Railway enthusiasts and families enjoyed a fun afternoon as the much-loved Peacock Railway held its first Public Running Day of 2026 on Sunday 12 April.
Operated by the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society, the charming miniature railway, tucked away behind The Peacock Inn on Crewe Road, Willaston, marked the start of the new season.
With free entry and parking, it proved once again to be an accessible and affordable day out for families.
Visitors were treated to rides along the railway's 5-inch gauge track, which winds for nearly a quarter of a mile around the scenic site.
For just £1 per person, passengers enjoyed two laps behind a variety of miniature steam and battery-electric locomotives, with proceeds supporting the volunteer-run society that keeps the railway running.

Guests admired the detailed Gauge 1 (45mm) model railway on the Society's raised track. At around 95 metres (310 feet) in length, it is believed to be the longest raised Gauge 1 railway of its kind in the North West.
Refreshments and snacks were available throughout the afternoon, with plenty of outdoor seating offering a perfect vantage point to relax and watch the trains in action.
Behind the scenes, society members had spent the winter carrying out essential maintenance and improvements, ensuring everything was in top condition for the new season.
The opening event set the tone for a busy year ahead, with further public running days planned through to late October. The next event will take place on Sunday 3 May from 12pm to 4pm.
A Peacock Railway representative said: "We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to support our first running day of the year, it was wonderful to see so many families and railway enthusiasts enjoying the afternoon.
"Our volunteers work incredibly hard behind the scenes, and days like this make it all worthwhile. We look forward to welcoming everyone back again on Sunday 3 May for another great day at the railway."
