Cheshire East has given the go-ahead for eight homes to be built on the site of a former kennels at Hough.

The site, at Birchwood House, is in the open countryside and the proposal is contrary to Cheshire East policy, but planning officer Daniel Evans reminded councillors the council doesn't have a five-year housing land supply 'which you have to give weight to in the planning balance'.

The applicant's agent, Jack Dickinson, said: "This proposal represents the final logical phase in completing the high-quality redevelopment of the former boarding kennels and associated dwelling off Birch Lane.

"With previous phases to the south and east already successfully built and occupied, members who attended the site visit will have seen how these well-designed homes have integrated into the local context.

"The application before you seeks permission to complete this attractive new residential area."

The proposal does not include any affordable housing on site, instead a contribution of £303,743 will be made towards the provision of three off-site affordable homes.

A contribution is also to be made towards providing a bus stop and the siting of this will be discussed with the parish council.

The application was moved for approval, subject to conditions, by committee chair Joy Bratherton (Crewe, Lab) and seconded by Cllr Janet Clowes (Conservative, Hough).

The vote was seven in favour of approval and one councillor abstained.
